Christmas Junior Scramble

Today I played in the annual junior Christmas scramble which was great fun! (as usual). My team consisted of my Dad, my good friend Harry Moule (a junior), his Dad John, and I. We played well as a team shooting a gross 2 under (an eagle included) and 1 bogey. The winners were the McGrane's and Phil Hall. Overall a great day!

Playing Lesson with Charlie

Today I played at the Berkshire and played OK. It was a really nice round of golf as the weather was good and I played alright. The driving was better but the putting was not so good.

Swing Lesson with Charlie

Today I had a lesson with my coach Charlie. It wasn't really a lesson it was just so Charlie could see how I was playing. It was great to see Charlie, as it always is and I can't wait to play the Berkshire with him on the 29th.

Wentworth!

Today I played the West course at Wentworth, it was amazing! I shot 82 nett 72 which made it twice as enjoyable because it was a course I had never played before and it is a hard/long course, so to shoot nett 72 was great! Additionally, I had a caddie which made the experience extra special and my caddie mentioned that I was only the 4th person to play to their handicap in the two years he had caddied their for. Overall, a great day!
Drew, Marc, Callum, and I on the right. The caddies on the left

The Quaich Match

Today I played in The Quaich Cup. The Quaich Cup was orignally a competition between the Ladies and Junior however it now involves the seniors. It was a great day and a lot of fun consider we won. I won my match, shooting 2 under handicap (8 over gross). Max, Brennan, Tommy, and Mark also won their matches and Harry came 2nd in his. A great win! We also received £200 from the seniors section (we are all so great full). The ladies also paid for sacks in the half hut. Overall, a fantastic day!

Junior Vice Captain

A few days ago I was asked by our Junior organiser, Sally if I would like to be the Tidworth Junior Vice Captain for the 2016 season which also means I will be the 2017 Junior Captain! Great News! I was playing today with my Dad when Sally approached me on the 11th to confirm it with a handshake! :D By the way I shot a nett 69! and my Dad shot a nett 66!

Men's Final Medal Slavers

Today I played in the Final Medal Salvers. It was a slow start as there was heavy fog which meant we couldn't see therefore it was dangerous. Play was put back 40 mins which was really annoying as I was warmed up and ready to go! I played OK and shot 83 nett 73 which is 3 over which meant I went up 0.1 but I felt I played OK.

Presidents Cup!

So, last year I won the Presidents Cup, I played in it as the holder this year. It was a lovely day today, I teed off in the afternoon so the sun was out however the wind was up. Before I went out I had over heard that a guy had already come in with a nett 60 so I was finding hard to believe that anyone was going to beat it. However, I went out positive even though I would have to shoot a nett 59, gross 69. But I knew it was possible as anything is possible! I teed off the first with my two playing partners and my head held high. I hit my drive about 230 yards up hill but it just crept into the rough on the left side, I had a decent lie and a 50 degree in my hands so I knew I could get it close and start the round on a positive. I stuck it 6ft under the hole, which is good as I left myself an uphill birdie putt, I holed it and started my round 1 under. I went on to par the 3rd and 4th then bogey the long par 4 4th but I knew I had a good chance to get a shot back on the par 3 5th which is a fairly easy hole. I put my tee shot 7ft past the hole which left myself an uphill birdie putt which I went on to sink (a bit of money, yes please!) which meant I was 1 under stood on the 6th. I hit a nice drive down the middle (260 yards) which meant I could try and hit the green with my second and give myself an eagle putt. I missed the green, short and left, chipped and 2 putted which is a good par. I then went on to bogey 7,8, and 9 so ended up 2 over gross and 3 under handicap front nine. I still fancied my chances at getting that gross 69 however I would have to play very very well to get close to it. I bottled it back nine and ended up shooting 88! NOT GOOD! but I can take some positives from today. Overall a great day!

Tidworth Junior Open

Today I played in the Junior Open at Tidworth I played well, I was 2 under handicap (78-10=68). The greens were rolling very nice but were very very slow. I came second in my division and I won nearest the pin on 13 hitting it to exactly 6ft 6 inches. I won a TaylorMade Aeroburner 3 wood and a glove for the nearest the pin. Overall great day!

Playing lesson with European tour pro David Howell

In August 2011 played in a non handicap competition at Broome Manor golf club and won! my prize was a nine hole playing lesson with David Howell. I never got that lesson...until now!

My dad and I woke up at 6:00 for a 1 hour drive to Swindon, we arrived and I warmed up on the range. I played OK I didn't any birdies but made a few pars. I asked David some questions and just generally talked, David is a very nice guy and has had a successful year on tour so far! After the round we took some photos and he gave me some advice on my swing. He noticed I was coming too much in to out and I was hooking the ball, (which is a good thing for Charlie!) he gave me a drill which allowed my arms to stay more connected with my body. He also said I take my hands too far away from my body so I need to think there is an electric fence in the way, and then through impact I need to feel like the top of the club is pulling to the left. Overall great experience, thank you to David Howell for giving up his time to play with me.

Random fact: I won 4 years ago!

Playing lesson with Charlie and Dad at The Berkshire

Today I played at the Berkshire with Charlie and my Dad. I didn't play very well but still came away with two birdies and some valuable advice. On the course I tend to get annoyed with bad shots, as do most golfers however if I am to be a good golfer (which I will) I need to find the positives and stay level headed. The task Charlie set me was to find a poker face because as he rightfully explained when he was playing you would not be able to tell whether he was playing well or playing bad as he did not show that with facial expressions. This is what I need to be able to do. Overall nice round of golf.

Random stat: I shot 79 the other day and only had 31 putts, just goes to show my driver is causing me problems (3 off the tee on the 4th).

Random fact: The par 3 17th at TPC Sawgrass claims over 120,000 golf balls each year!

Friday 7 August 2015

4th Eclectic card and A round with the lads!

Today I played a round with some friends. I practiced 2 hours before and then played. I played very well on the front nine shooting 36 which is one over gross and 4 under handicap, however, on the back nine I played terrible and was 9 over par! I ended up playing level with my handicap. Overall good day.

Random stat: 9 Greens in regulations only 1 birdie!
Random fact: Seve Ballesteros won over 90 international tournaments.

Tuesday 4 August 2015

3rd and 4th August

Yesterday and today I played with some good friends of mine I shot 79 and 77, 1 under and 3 under. I also practiced before hand for 4 hours. Overall fun day I just need to do that in competition.

Lesson with Charlie and a sneak peak at The Seniors Open!

Today I went to see my coach Charlie Gold for a swing lesson. I was struggling to hit a draw which is my preferred shot shape. I knew what I needed to do to fix it, I just did not have the confidence that I could fix it. Charlie gave me that confidence. I was really annoyed that I was hitting the ball right as I do not like to see the ball go right. However, I disliked the fact that I was then hitting everything left. Charlie asked me which shot I would like to be my bad shot, as Charlie rightfully said 'no golfer wants two bad shots, so he said that when the ball goes left you should be really happy as the ball didn't go left. I then started hitting it straight or with a small draw which I was happy about.

After the lesson my Dad rung our next door neighbor and asked him for Senior Open tickets as it was just around the corner. We saw about 30 mins golf as it was raining really heavy and play got suspended. Overall, a great day, thank you Dad for taking me to have a lesson, thank you Charlie for giving me the lesson and thank you Graham for getting us the tickets. :)

Clubs Championship Day 1 and 2 (Men's and Junior's)

Yesterday and today I played in the Tidworth Garrison Golf Club 2015 Club Championships. The club champs consists of a net and gross winner and the junior club champs consists of only of a gross winner. I shot 83 the first day which is 13 over gross and 2 over handicap, but I had 2 birdies including a chip in on 9! I shot 77 today which is 7 over gross and 4 under handicap. Overall I was really happy with the way I played, I lost the junior comp by 1 shot to Katrina Duncan. Well done to Andy Snellgrove who won the Men's Club Championship 2015! (That will be me next year).

Thank you to all who made it run so smoothly and a nig thank you to my Dad and Mum who are always there for me and always support me! :D

On Friday and today I played very good. On Friday Max and I played 14 holes and I shot 39 (which is 4 over gross) front nine and the 5 holes and the back nine I was level gross, so really happy and I reached the 499 yard par 5, 6th, in 2 :D

Today, I also played with Max and shot 82, so one over handicap, not too bad. Front nine I shot 38, one better than yesterday, on the par 5, 6th, I hit a 295 yard drive down the middle and on the par 14th I hit a 351 yard drive down the middle. On the back nine I shot 44 which let my front nine down but it was OK. Overall a fun round.

Work Experience at TGGC Pro shop with Terry, Jo, Jane, and James! :D

Last week, 15th - 19th, I completed one weeks work experience in my local pro shop it was good fun but only when the shop was busy and I wasn't cleaning buggies! :( Work experience was very useful and I learnt a lot even if it was boring at times. I learnt how to check stock and put it into a 'goods in' book and put it on to the system. I also learnt how hard it was for Terry to make money when there were no customers practically all week (Monday - Thursday), however, on Friday it was much better I still did a lot of cleaning but I learnt the most important thing, which was how to re-grip clubs. But on Friday it was more busy and the best day by far because we made a lot of money! Overall a great week with all the pros.

Thank you Terry! :D

Golf Leadership course

Today, I visited North Wilts to take part in a golf leadership course. It was very useful however a bit on the boring side, it consisted of me and group of us being taught by an advanced PGA professional who teaches young children the importance of keep golf alive and popular. I learnt a lot of important things and had some fun whilst doing it. Within a month I should also have a certificate saying I am 'qualified' to do low level teaching :D

Cumberwell Junior Open

Today I played in the Cumberwell Junior Open I played with a 1 handicapper called Jake. I had played with Jake before at a different competition and it is always nice to see how a good player player golf compared to you. I shot an 85 which was 3 over my handicap, however, The standard scratch went down to 70. I played OK apart from I could not hole a putt, mainly on the first 9 because the greens were in such bad condition. Overall I was fairly disappointed but you can't win them all.

Saturday 23 May 2015

Junior league team match vs North Wilts

Today our team played against North Wilts and lost, as a team we lost 4 and 2 and I also lost 4 and 2. I played against a boy called Brad who played off 20 so a gave him 9 shots! however, I wasn't the only one giving shots, so were the rest of my team. The least amount of shots we gave was 7! I played well and Brad played well but he had shots and I didn't, he played more off a handicap of 15! overall a fun day and a nice playing partner.
