Playing The Berkshire (blue)

Today I played the Berkshire Blue course with my Dad and Charlie! It was great fun as usual! I played really well and shot 76, we were also very lucky with the weather considering its December.

Trying the NEW Taylormade Gear!

This evening, my Dad and I traveled to Winchester Academy driving range try the new Taylormade clubs. The new M1 and M2 drivers were very good and looked very sleek, I loved them! I will be returning to the range for a club fitting in January. I cannot wait!

Junior Christmas Scramble and 2017 Captains Hand-over!

Today I played in the Christmas Scramble (14 holes) with My Dad, Max and Darren. The competition was great fun as it always is. Unfortunately, we did not win even though we posted the best gross score of 8 under par through 14 holes (our handicap was too small). Overall, it was a good day and we had nice weather too. Congratulations to Harry, Frank, Ayden and his Grandad.

The final thing on the agenda was the captains hand-over. Callum Duff (2016 Junior Captain) handed me my captains jumper for 2017! I gave a speech and thanked everyone for coming.

Today I played a practice round with the lads (minus Callum). I played really well and shot 72 which is 5 under handicap and only 2 over gross. Had a great time! Level par front 9 for a third time in a row!

3rd Winter League Match!

Today my Dad and played in our 3rd winter league match vs Andy Spiller and Martin Shaw. I played really well shooting level par front 9 and 75 overall (a bit of a disappointing back 9). We won 4&2 after being 6up after 10 holes :D but a good win for Team Taylor.

December Monthly Stableford!

Today I played with my Dad and Max. I didn't play on the medal because it was my first round back after having an operation (24/11/16) due to my crohns and didn't know whether I would be able to play 18 holes. Considering it was a first round after an operation I played well, I shot a 78.

Captains Challenge (I'm The Junior Captain 2017)

Today I played in the captains day. I played with Frank (Club Captain), Dick (Seniors Captain) and Morag (Ladies Captain). It was a fun and format, the format was a stableford where the Captains and Vice captains had to set the best score possible and members had to try and beat it. We managed to set a score of 35 stableford points, achieved by the Seniors Captain and Vice Captain and myself. I played ok however as usual it should have been a lot better, overall a fun day.

2nd Winter League Match

Today my Dad and I played against the strong and very good pair, Rob Long and Kev Locker. It was a very close game and it came down to the last hole where unfortunately for Team Taylor Rob holed a 30 footer for birdie, which meant we lost 1 down (my solid par wasn't good enough). I played well and shot 76. Overall, nice round with two great lads.

November Monthly Stableford!

Today I played in the monthly stableford with my Dad and Tim. The weather wasn't great, it was extremely windy therefore hard playing conditions. I didn't play well and had 30 points which is 6 over handicap.

Today I received some prototype golf balls from Titleist. I have to test them and then tell them what I think of the balls in a survey. I cannot wait to get out on to the course and test these bad boys!

Wentworth! Edinburgh Course! With The Lads!

Today I played the Edinburgh course at Wentworth with Max, Harry and Callum. We played four ball better ball as a bit of fun, the teams were Max and I against Callum and Harry. Max and I won 5&4, we both played really well and together had 4 birdies. I shot 77 (Par 72) which is +5 gross and -2 handicap.  It was really nice to have my Dad and Max's Dad walking round with us. We had no wind but it was quite dark and cloudy, so all in all some good weather. Overall, I had a great time with my mates and Dad. Thank you to Drew and Taylormade/Adidas for organising the game and sponsoring our team. Also, thank you to my Dad for taking me :) Really appreciate it.

Playing The Berkshire with Charlie and Dad!

Today I played The Berkshire Blue course. I had a great time as usual with Charlie (my coach) and my Dad. The weather was great and apart from the greens the course was in very good condition.

The Quaich Cup!

Today a team of juniors played in the Quaich Cup. The competition is between the juniors, seniors and ladies. I won the 3 points for our team which was great! Overall the juniors won. I played well and shot 74 (+4 gross and -3 handicap).

1st Winter League Match

Today my Dad and I played in our of first match of the winter league. We played against Lee Griffiths and Derek Kenneth. It was a great game, my Dad and I got to 3Up at one stage and they fought it back to all square and then towards the end we took the upper hand and won 2Up. It was a great day and the weather was perfect.

South West Regional Semi Finals! 8th & 9th October

Yesterday I played a practice round at Essendon Country Club where our semi final is being played it was a good incite into what the course was like. I played with my Dad, John and Harry Moule.

Today, I played in the South West Regional Semi Finals with the Tidworth Junior team consisting of: Callum Duff (Captain), Me (Vice Captain), Max Wrixon, Harry Moule, Alex Sadler and Mason Knowles. I played well (shot 1 over handicap +8 gross) but struggled putting on such fantastic greens! It was great fun and overall we came 4th! Not bad considering we're the first TGGC junior team to get that far!

Today I played in the monthly stableford with my Dad and Tim. I played well and shot 75 which is 3 under handicap and 5 over gross. It was great fun and I am now off 7.0 the lowest I have ever been!

Playing for the scratch team vs The Wiltshire!

Today I played for scratch team playing against The Wiltshire. I played with my good friend Callum unfortunately we lost 5&4 however we did play against their best player off 2. Overall it was a fun and enjoyable experience, hopefully it will be a better result next time.

Champions Salver!

Today I played in the Champions Salver (a new comp). I played well again and shot another 78 nett 70 which is level to my handicap. I am happy with the way I played however I was only 2 over gross on the front 9 and then from 10-13 I dropped 5 shots so I was 7 over going into the loop. I bogeyed the 15th and ended up with a 78. Overall a fun day!

The Presidents Cup!

Today I played in the Presidents Cup I shot 78 nett 70. I played well, I was 3 over gross on the front 9 but didn't play as well on the back 9 and was 5 over gross. However, I am still pleased that I played level to my handicap when I know it could have been a lot better! Overall a great day with good weather too!

Today I played at Stevenage Golf Club in our junior team. The weather was terrible and so was my golf. All that matters is we won! On to the Semi finals at Essendon Golf club!

September Monthly Medal with Dad and Max!

Today I played in the monthly medal and shot 81 nett 73 I played OK but unfortunately I was one shot outside my buffer zone meaning I went up 0.1. On the front 9 I was only 2 over gross however I blew it on the back 9 and was nine over gross. Overall a fun day even after a bad round.

Swing Lesson with Charlie

Today I had a swing lesson with Charlie. He looked at my swing in general and said it looked 'world class' which I was super happy about. Previously, I was working on swinging left to try and not come from the inside, although this is good with my irons it is not so good when it comes to driving. I was swinging too far left with my driver so I was slicing everything and hitting it inconsistently (mainly out of the toe). Towards the end of the lesson I was hitting my driver better and knew exactly what I needed to work on to fix it. It was a great lesson and I had a fun time with Charlie.

Tidworth Junior Open

Today, I played in my home Junior Open I shot 78, nett 70. Which is good however I should have shot a lot lower as I was only 2 over gross front nine. Overall great day! Thank you to all the organisers and ball spotters.

Finals Day at Wrag barn!

Today, we played against Broome Manor at Wrag Barn in the Wiltshire finals day. Unfortunately, we lost 4-2 however in the majority of the matches it was very close. I halved my match and played very well round a course I had never played before. Even though we lost we still get to represent Wiltshire in the SW regional Championships in Cornwall or Bristol.

Final League Match VS Manor House

Today, the Tidworth Junior League team played against Manor House. The team consisted of: Harry, Max, Me, Callum, Alex, and Jack. We only needed two match wins to take us to the final against Broome Manor played at Wragbarn. Manor House could only bring 3 players as they didn't have enough people for a full team, therefore the score was already 3-0, however Harry, Max and I won our matches, so the final score was 6-0. I was giving 15 shots and won 2&1, overall a fun day!

We teed off at 8:00 and set out to shoot a great score (well that was until Max put me on the car park on 15). Both of us didn't play very well however we only shot 2 over our handicap (which was 8) and we finished in 4th position. Overall a great day with great company! Thank you to our playing partners John and Nigel.

Round of Golf With Max, Russell Webber, and Darren Henry

Today I played a friendly round of golf. It was great fun as always even if Max and I lost 3&2! We both shot 75 which is 5 over gross and I was 3 under handicap, I played well and hit a lot of greens in regulation (13 out of 18) however I didn't hole a lot of putts (most of them were close though). Overall great day!

Recent Practice

Last lesson with Charlie I was coming too far from the inside and getting stuck which caused a block. The drill is really helping but it still needs lot's of practice. Can't wait to see some major improvements!

The Foster Powell Knockout and Stableford!

Today I was supposed to play in the Foster Powell knock out however my illness was playing up in morning and therefore forced me to pull out. Fortunately, it consisted of two competitions and by the afternoon I was able to play. I played in the stableford comp and stupidly enough ended up winning. I shot a 73 which is only 3 over gross and is 5 under handicap, it wasn't meant to be a qualifier however Sally said it could be because we played so well.

Playing the Berkshire (Red) with Charlie!

Today I played the Berkshire with my Dad and coach Charlie. It was great fun as usual however I didn't play too good, I shot an 83 which is 3 over handicap. I found it very helpful to talk to Charlie face to face as I hadn't seen him in a while. The weather was great and the greens were the quickest I have ever putted on (11 on the Stimp).

Midweek Medal!

Today I played in the Midweek medal with Tim and Derek Wainwright. I shot an 80 which is only 2 over handicap so not too bad. I played OK but left a lot of shots out there as usual! Overall a great day spent with great company!

Playing Basingstoke!

Today I played Basingstoke with Tim, Dave Pomphrey, and Ray Suddes. I drove the ball really well however my iron play was not so good. Overall a very fun day and the hottest day of the year!

The Club Championships!

Today and yesterday I played in the 2016 Club Championships. The first day I shot 76 (3 under handicap and 6 over gross), I was leading the Junior Club Champs by one shot. The second day a shot 85! So not a good round. I ended up coming 3rd, very disappointed.
Oh well, onwards and upwards.

A game against my Uncle Neil!

Today, I played a friendly match against my Uncle and won 7&5. It was a fun game and a lovely round of golf (I also played quite well). Overall, a fun day!

Junior Match Vs North Wilts

Today, I played in a junior match Vs North Wilts altogether our team was giving 43 shots! Which made it hard especially away from home! I was giving 6 shots to a guy called Brad. I squared my match and the team won 3.5 to 2.5. Overall, it was a great day!

The Rematch!

Today, I played with Callum, Harry and Max. We played fourball better ball matchplay because Harry and Max (winter league champions) wanted to try and beat Callum and I. Last year we played matches against them and beat them all three times. It was a great match...between Max and I! Callum and Harry didn't play very well but Max and I did, I shot a 75 which I was pleased with. Callum and I lost 4 & 3 however it was a gross match and Max was 1 under gross! Overall a fun day!

Today, I played a practice round with my good friend Tim McNally. I shot 76 which is 3 under handicap and 6 over gross however I had 2 double bogies! I felt like I played OK but felt a fair few shots out there. A great day with great company.

KO Match VS Upavon

Today, I played in a Junior KO match VS Upavon. Previously our three man team (Callum, Brennan and I) beat Bowood, however, today we lost against Upavon. We all gave 8 shots or more which is always tough when your playing away too. I played a junior called Tom who beat me 2 & 1, I felt like I played OK but he used his shots well.

First Competition Back!

Today, I played in the Bulford Cup, unfortunately I didn't play very well but I put that down to a lack of practice and being ill. It was 36 holes in one day and it was great fun! It felt amazing to be competing again and I can't wait for my next comp and hopefully I play better! I shot 80 in the first round which was ok as it was only 1 over handicap, however second round I shot 88 which is 9 over handicap. Oh well, head up and on to the next comp! Can't wait!

My first round back!

So, I was meant to play my first round back on the 29th however I could not complete it. On the 6th I started to feel pain and got to 14 and found that I was unable to complete the round. But today I did complete my first round! I shot a 78 which I am very happy with considering the circumstances. Hopefully, I play even better in my next round, which is the Bulford Cup. The competition is this Saturday and it's 36 holes in one day! Wish me luck!

Why I haven't been blogging (28/05/2016)

Annoyingly, I have been ill for the last 7 weeks! which has meant that I haven't been able to play golf. I missed out on 4 big board comps which infuriated me but there was nothing I could do about it. Since I have started the medication I feel a lot better and am beginning to build up my strength again. I have been on the range a few times trying to find my swing, which I must admit I don't think I've lost. I went up after school yesterday (05/27) and went on the range and chipping green for a couple of hours. Surprisingly, I am actually hitting the ball well including my driver, I still need to work on a few things but i'll do that over time (baby steps). I plan to go up the club today and practice all aspects of my game and hopefully be ready to play my first round tomorrow (05/29). Considering I feel like I am hitting the ball well I hope to at least to my handicap, which means shooting a gross 79, however, before I became ill my last round I shot a 75 which is 4 under handicap. And also playing with Tim in the Junior captains day comp we shot 7 under gross and we both played amazingly well! I'm not expecting to shoot 7 under but I wouldn't mind shooting a gross 77, 2 under.

Junior Captains Day!

Today, I played in the Junior Captains day comp with my good friend and playing partner Tim McNally. It was a pairs stableford scramble which was very enjoyable especially considering we won! We scored a collective of 46 points! We shot 7 under gross with a bogey on 17 due to a silly 3 putt from both of us! However, it was a fun day and a thoroughly enjoyed it. It was sad to see Perter Blake (past KO junior organiser) and Brian Bosley (past Junior Chairman) leave their roles in the junior section. Words can't express how kindhearted both of them are and I wish them good health for the future. Overall great day and even bagged myself 50 quid!

April Monthly Medal

Today I played in the monthly medal with Derek Wainwright and Steve Waller, it was a great game with some great company! I shot a 75 which is 5 over gross and 4 under handicap. A great round and overall a great day!

Ladies V Juniors Match

Today, I played in the Ladies V Juniors match. My playing partner was Max and our opponents were Karen and Sarah. Max and I beat them 3 & 2. The final score was 3-0 to the Juniors. A great result and a great day!

County Cup KO against Bowood (Away/1st round)

Today, I played in the Team KO match against Bowood. The weather was terrible and so was the golf, nevertheless I won 2 & 1 against a 2 handicapper called Jamie. It was a fun day even though I didn't play great golf.

Club Team V Scratch Team

Today, I played in the pre-season friendly. I played for the scratch team against the club team. It was good fun and an interesting format. My playing partner was Max and we won 2 up. Overall a great day!

March Monthly Stableford 05/03/2016

Today I played in the monthly stableford and shot 78 which is 2 under! However I had three 3 putts which meant I could have shot 75 and been 5 under! I played with Peter Alderson and Steven Tanner, both very nice guys. Overall a fun day! #Grind

Practice Round at Tidworth

Today I played by myself in not so nice weather conditions. I played well and shot 77 which is 7 over gross but 3 under handicap, so a good score. I am already seeing progress and we are only 2 months into the year so hopefully come the season I will be able to cut my handicap. #Bringonthenewseason #Grind

SkyTrak

Today I used the new SkyTrak system that Terry had installed into his shop. It was really helpful and told me my spin numbers and carry. I was carrying a 7 iron 179 yards which was a surprise to me. Thank you Terry.

Adidas/TayloMade HQ visit!

Today some of the juniors and I visited the Adidas and TaylorMade HQ. It was AMAZING! Drew (the European Commercial Director of Adidas/TaylorMade) showed us around the offices and factory. We saw where they assemble the clubs and send off equipment to the tour pros. As a team we also picked our team gear for the coming season, it looks very nice. Overall, a fun, interesting evening, I also saw a nice pair of summer shoes that are being released fairly soon :) Thank you Drew.

Round of golf at the Berkshire with Charlie (Blue Course)

Today I played a round at the Berkshire with my coach. I shot 81 which is level my handicap however my score could have been 6 or more shots better. I had 3, 3 putts and a triple bogey, I also missed several short putts (6ft and in). It just shows that my handicap could be a lot lower. Overall a really nice day.  

Adult/Junior Foursomes Stableford 14 Hole.

Today I played in a foursomes stableford and my partner was the Junior captains Dad (Marc). We had 25 points over 14 holes, so not too bad. The winners had 28 points however they had a considerably higher handicap compared to us. The weather was terrible however 30 people still turned out to play the competition. Overall a good day.

Golf Update

Just a quick update. I had an injury a few weeks ago and it is finally starting to get better. I have been playing well recently, shooting under handicap frequently. I went up the club today and started by going on the range working on my swing, I then played 7 holes. Finally, I finished with a bit of chipping. Target of this year is sub 5. #Grind

Block Practice

Today I went on the range and did swing practice. I focused on rotation of my hips at impact which gives my hands more room so they don't get caught behind me. I also practiced a bit of pitching from 60 yards. Overall a good practice session apart from the rain.

Block Practice (January 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th)

January 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th - I have been practicing a couple of things on the range, they are going well. I have already made some great progress and am continuing to make great progress. I will win competitions this year!

New years Scramble!

Today I played in the New years with some friends of mine Alexi Cox (our team Captain), Max Wrixon, Harry Moule, and Jack Murn. We shot gross 4 under but we doubled the last (11th because it was a shotgun start). Overall a great day!
